Enviro Action Newsletter August 2007I want to talk to you about saving money and preventing grief with your insurance this month but first up, I have an announcement. I was told that what they really appreciate is the balance I show between the needs of the environment and the needs of the industry. I am deeply touched by this because my aim has always been to strike this balance because when industry benefits from the systems they are building, they continue and this produces the best environmental and other outcomes.
Some of you may also have seen me interviewed on Sky News Eco Report over the weekend. They were talking about my book, “It is easy being green, simple steps to help your business help the world” (available from www.itiseasytobegreen.com). We discussed the benefits to business of having an environmental management system and also about the importance of knowing what regulations you need to comply with and having a simple paper trail to prove you take all the reasonable steps you can to comply with these laws and regulations.
I have had several occasions recently to hear presentations from insurance companies and I have also been renewing my own insurances. One of the key things that they all stressed was that if you can demonstrate that you have a risk management procedure in place in your business and that you use it, you can save money on your insurance and in some cases can obtain insurance that you would not get otherwise.
Identifying, analysing and managing the various risks in your business is a fundamental part or the “Easy to be Green” and Easy to be Safe” modules (both the home study and the coached modules). The process is also described in the Green Jumpstart Kit and in a low cost risk management homestudy course I added at the request of my insurance agent who wanted to be able to refer his clients to some cost effective risk training.
