If a relatively cheap, efficient and carbon-neutral means of producing hydrogen can be developed it would command a key role in future renewable energy technology..............
For various reasons, climate change is no longer as high a priority as it was when the Rudd government came to power. At that time people generally accepted there was a looming and they expected to be recruited into the war on global warming in the same way they are recruited into the battle to conserve water, via restrictions on consumption.
Voters were so impressed by Rudd’s apparent passion and conviction on climate change, they were expecting to be called on to reduce their own carbon emissions and to take positive action to reduce their demand for energy – drive less, fly less, turn off unnecessary lights in the house, wear clothing that would minimise our reliance on heaters and air-conditioners, etc, etc.
This did not happen. Instead.................
In most cases the huge amount of water coming to the surface with the coal seam gas is salty as well as being there in huge amounts. There is real concern about the potential to pollute the aquifers and this is seriously concerning the farmers.
I must confess that I was very uneasy when I heard one mining industry spokesman saying that over the next 20-50 years technology will be developed to solve the problem of polluted aquifers! Yoiks! If I was in authority I would remove his licence immediately!!
This is a large and growing industry. The first contracts to sell coal seam gas to the Chinese have already been signed and..........

A leading Chinese government adviser has criticised the gap between what Kevin Rudd’s says and what he does on climate change has reduced the chance that the world can curb global warming before it is too late.
Investigators are working on understanding what went wrong when the rig exploded on April 20 and started spilling millions of gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico and are sure to find a whole series of engineering failures, from cement seals that didn’t hold back a powerful gas bubble to a 450-ton, 40-foot-tall blowout preventer to a stack of metal valves and pistons that each failed to close off the well.........................
Up to half of a data centre’s energy consumption is used in the powering of air cooling systems necessary to prevent supercomputers from overheating. So the new water cooling system, called Aquasar, aims to cut the excess power consumption....................
Researchers have assessed more than 150 countries on land clearing, carbon emissions and species loss and this has dispelled the view that poorer countries are mainly to blame for trashing the environment.
Large-scale land clearing in Brazil puts that country at the top, while Australia is ninth.................
